IPR Daily Article - The contributions of Ms Amy Wong to IP in Macao and the Greater Bay Area

Deep in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao,Towards the Greater Bay Areas Intellectual Property Evolution.

Since the Outline of the Development Plan for the Greater Bay Area of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao was issued and implemented in 2019, enterprises in the three regions have ushered in more development opportunities and made new breakthroughs in IP cooperation. In the context of deepening cooperation between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, many intellectual property professionals gathered in the Greater Bay Area, adding luster to the development of intellectual property in the area. Ms Amy Wong, , President of Macao Victory Group International has made significant contributions in this regards.

As the 'first person' of CEPA between the Mainland and Macao, she and her team have been serving the development of intellectual property between the Mainland, Macao and Portugal for many years, and led her team to develop her own brand in the IP industry. In 2021, she led the Macao Victory Group to the 'Guangzhou Development Zone', further expanding the strength of her team.

Seizing the development of the IP industry

In 1992, Amy's life took its first major turning point as she bid farewell to her hometown and settled in the South China city of Zhuhai to pursue her professional career.

In 1997, she took the National Unified Bar Examination in Zhuhai and obtained the bar qualification. Thereafter, she obtained a Bachelor of Laws from Sun Yat-sen University and a Master of Law from the China University of Political Science and Law. However, when she moved to Macao in 2000, she had already become a qualified lawyer in Mainland China. As a Macao citizen, she also lost the qualification of employment in the Mainland, which made her career positioned between 'a rock and a hard place'. She had no choice but to study again, hoping to engage in lawyer work in Macao. But for various reasons, including her degree, she could only work as an assistant, or clerical and other similar positions at the firm.

What brought about a change in her career was the implementation of the Mainland / Macao Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA) in 2004, At the same time with the mainland lawyer qualification and Macao law studies, she instantly became relevant to both regions in a unique and special way.
